This is a beginner friendly, mixed-level class where students are appropriately challenged depending on experience with Aerial Arts. This class is meant to be repeated for Beginner & Intermediate-level students. We explore ways to move in and out of poses suitable to all flyers in silks. We work on Foundational skills, climbs, and progressions. Class includes basic warm-up and conditioning in order to prepare us to fly safely and comfortably in the aerial apparatus. Students will leave the class with a new set of skills, beginner/intermediate sequences, embodied knowledge from ground to air, and an understanding of how to create sequences/dance with the aerial silks. A fun and empowering experience for all levels!
What is Contemporary Aerial Dance?
We incorporate movement on ground into the air. In Contemporary Aerial Dance, We thoughtfully co-create movement language- weaving together kinesthetic intelligence/technique, contemporary movement with the apparatus, and emotional intention with equal reverence.
What to wear & bring: Please wear clothing that allows your body to move freely. Be prepared to move in bare feet. The backs of the knees, waist, and armpits should be covered to avoid burns. Slick leggings can sometimes be challenging due to slippery feel on silks. Please bring a water bottle and a healthy snack to each class. It’s hard work!
