Intermediate/ Advanced Contemporary Aerial Dance for dancers with solid aerial foundation in Silks, Sling, Sequencing, and Aerial arts explorations. This class is intended for students with aerial experience who are ready to develop choreography & sequencing in the air. Dancers take their aerial dance practice to the next level- artistically and with technical skills. Dancers have unique opportunity to work IN STEDDY THEATRE. Choreographic work shared in Student Performance Showcase on May 10th ( performance is always optional).
Students work on advanced aerial skills/ progressions, link challenging sequences, build choreography on the ground /in the air and create meaningful, culturally relevant Dance. Students will train with safety and intelligence.
What is Contemporary Aerial Dance?
Contemporary Aerial incorporates movement on ground into the air. In Contemporary Aerial Dance, We thoughtfully co-create movement language, weaving together kinesthetic intelligence/technique, contemporary movement with the apparatus, and emotional intention with equal reverence. Throughout the session, Dancers develop their own compositional and choreographic pieces: solos, duets, trios and group pieces depending on the dancer’s interest. *If you are seeking individual Aerial Arts Mentorship, reach out to Sasha to schedule private lessons. Mentorship Slots are very limited.
What to wear & bring: Please wear clothing that allows your body to move freely. Aerial friendly clothing: no zippers, jeans and jewelrey. The backs of the knees, waist, and armpits should be covered to avoid silks burns. Please bring a water bottle and a healthy snack to each class. It’s hard work!
